Fire Department

In our primary protection area we have a variety of high risk areas. Within city limits we have two schools, a farmer’s co-op, a nursing home, assisted living facilities, many apartment buildings, a large main street business area, several large manufacturing facilities, a car dealership and an implement dealership. Outside of city limits is rural area but it also includes a county prairie, a county marsh, and The Story County Greenbelt. We also cover 10 miles of Interstate 35 and nine miles of rail which is a major transport line for ethanol. The department has seen some incredible changes over the years including improving the operational capabilities, purchasing new equipment, upgrading fire facilities and enhancing suppression staff levels as we respond to the ever-changing needs of our community. To that end, we will continue to make available as much useful information as possible for the residents, business owners and employees, civic groups and those just interested in glancing at the Story City Fire Department.
